“Blessed are the poor in spirit,for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “~ Matthew 5:3.
Poor in spirit? What does that mean? It’s not so much as being poor literally or that can be the case, but it’s a different kind of poverty.
Those who are poor in spirit have been stripped of any sort of pride or self-righteousness. They yearn for one thing and one thing only. To be made rich in Jesus. And that’s what they are promised.
Isaiah says all of our righteousness in our own strength are but dirty rags. I wonder then, what’s the point of being righteous when we cant do it anyway?
The disciples asked much the same question, believe it or not, when they wondered who then could be saved? Jesus replied no one if you think you can on your own. But with God, the Father drawing you? It becomes possible.
How to become poor in spirit? By accepting yourself that without Jesus you can do nothing, and learning to let go of pride, self-righteousness and arrogance.
Again, my dear friend, I’m learning this as well. It’s what I long for and someday soon, we’ll receive the kingdom.
